Immediately recognizable to most I think. Definitely a conversation starter. I'm not sure I'd want to start that conversation though.

Too soon. It probably took quite a few decades before Hindenburg pictures were cool.

Mmmm... some people seem to understand what this is... I think I have an idea, but I'd probably be wrong.

Interesting graphic, though.

Actually, the Hindenberg crash made it onto a t-shirt in 1939, a mere two years after the fact.

Mixed reviews on this one, though.

maybe I'm a tad dense...or insensitive...but why do people even care about this stuff?...let alone be offended by it?...

@gyou: it is a reminder of failure and loss. Personally, I considered it foreshadowing of worse to come, and so far have not been proved wrong. The design is definitely challenging, pun intended, and perhaps it is time we looked into that mirror.

I thought the smoke trail was supposed to look like intestines, lol

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'd like all here to know that while I'm all for subversive and dark humor, this wasn't done glibly or without thought. I vividly remember watching this event on a television at my elementary school and, of course, I was devastated. It was exactly those Hindenburg photos that led me to consider other iconic images of horrific catastrophe, and how some have been strangely rendered benign by time and lack of context in the collective public memory (if there's such a thing). In any case, offense wasn't intended -- in fact, I wasn't quite sure anyone would recognize the image.

Yeah I don't know...I wouldn't say I'm offended...but I think it's in bad taste.

I would never wear it at least. Do you have any idea how you'd feel if you ran into someone who knew one of the crew members while wearing that shirt?

Not that it's likely but still.

Just...no.

I am offended. It is definitely in bad taste, and shows poor judgment.

I don't know whether I think it's in poor taste or not.. I'm just not sure what the point is in having it on a shirt.

My family would chastise me for wearing this. I'll take 2.

the Hindenburg wasn't filled with modern day heroes, atleast I feel that our society, whether they realize it or not, views our astronauts as unsung heros, thus I feel that the shirt isn't entirely appropriate.

rossisdead on Sep 25 '07
People that are offended by a shirt like this need to lighten up. With that said, I wouldn't buy it, just cause it's like.. what?

It looks like an ostrich sitting in a teacup made of clouds. But other than that, i don't think many people would recognize this without the word "challenged" below the sky explosion. It was a very sad event, and i too do not understand why you'd want this tragedy on a t-shirt to "start conversation." The conversation would begin and end with people spitting on me or trying to set my car on fire. This isn't a shirt standing up for anything where i would feel okay that people reacted badly to it, imo. But nice representation of the explosion.

The comment above me about "heroes" being in the shuttle compared to the "nobodies" of the Hindenberg i guess is ridiculous tho. Both tragedies are very upsetting and innocent people died, no matter how heroic you label each person on each vessel or not.

This design is a celebration of bad engineering. That's not a very interesting concept.
