yeah the typeface is too plain specially next to that awesome illustration, draw the text out by hand, as opposed to typingitin there

typeface, I love what it's saying. That's what makes it funny!

I would prefer it without the speech bubbles, but if they stay the text needs to change. Again, fantastic illustration.

Otherwise, fantastic illustration!

   thunderpeel on Sep 22 '07
text concerns aside ( i agree-- content is great but execution is lacking) i worry about how this will look in solid colors, without the benefit of all its subtle tones/gradients and such. It certainly won't look as soft and smooth.

Great illo though

I disagree. I love the typeface (old version). It reminds me of the Trader Joes ads, or the Married to the Sea comics (marriedtothesea.com). Amazing. Great style, beautiful colors. Everything I love in a t-shirt. 5$

But I think it's completely wonderful . . . except for the text. It just makes me laugh so much for some reason.

Oh man, after looking through another page of submissions, I love this so much that I had to come back and comment it again!

I don't mind the font, because both the drawing style and use of font remind me of childrens writer/illustrator Colin McNaughton (well worth checking out), and so kinda my childhood

Wi Waffles, your updated design with the revised font looks heaps better (although you could probably tweak it some more just so it looks more hand-styled). Whatever you do, please keep the text -- it just puts the design over the top.

Miffsible
Miffsible on Sep 24 '07
since when was 'pimp' in the oxford english dictionary for farting? surely it no more holds that meaning, than it does the 'pimp my ride' meaning?

fact is, it's not 'ruining', it's 'evolving', as language always has.

Ellsswhere

your second design makes me cautious to vote, and how you plan to get these colors printed worries me... but with fixed text this would be a sweet shirt so i am giving you the benefit of the doubt

"Pimping, sir."

lajlaj
lajlaj on Sep 27 '07
i like the speech bubbles but not the look of the typed font. however i don't like the type style of the handwritten version either. a handdrawn type that looks more like the original type would be good. also it really looks like there are gradients. is it really five colors?

5$ nonetheless.

I love it, but must agree about the typeface. It really doesn't stand up to the quality of the rest of the design. Amend that and you are only aq winner.

How about using the 'Old Chap' in one of the bubbles?

the drawing is so strong and the text bubbles are weak, but large and take away from the drawing. i think if you keep the bubbles they should just be outlined and not filled in, and yes agree with above comments please change the typeface.

I love this. I also love the text. Fonts were used like that in old illustrations for children's books, ad's ect...... Pre- digital. I think it is a lovely stylistic choice, and makes the content even funnier.

deboraborialis on Sep 29 '07
Going back to something way back up there. Pimp my ride type English (axe instead of ask, exscape instead of escape) is ruining the English language. It may well be evolving, but in a very bad way.
deboraborialis
deboraborialis on Sep 29 '07
PS I don't want my language pimped.
Miffsible
Miffsible on Sep 29 '07
ok, I gotta agree I prefer the original 'ask' and 'escape', but there's really very little we can do to stop it!

It's happened for thousands of years, and I'm sure scholars of the times were distressed at apparent misuse and alteration of the language. 'The English Language' isn't a fixed thing, it's fluid.

And there are different strains of the language developing in different areas, it's not like it's lost
