Or two... in the works. :-D

So awhile ago I posted a blog asking for ruined Threadless shirts - shirts that people just don't wear anymore, and aren't able/don't want to sell. The plan? Make a quilt from those tees!

Some people responded, and I've been able to get started!!!

chelly and colin_Brights each sent me some tees, the fabulous Craig Shimala sent me a whole bunch of test prints and whatnot, and of course I had some shirts to add from my collection.

UPDATE 1: jensantarelli , andyg, and ir0cko also sent tees, and there are a few others heading my way! Or so I hear. ;-)

UPDATE 2: funkie fresh, telaine, pyr4lis donated tees to the cause! Also, I bought jersey knit sheets for the backs and borders of the quilt, and they just came in the mail. Yay!

UPDATE 3: blonde8007 also sent shirts!!

In fact, I now have enough tees to make 2 quilts. So in addition to the one I'm making for myself, I'm making a quilt to auction/raffle off for charity. (Charity TBD - I have some ideas, but if anyone else knows of a great charity, send me the details.) EDIT: I wanted anyone who really cared to have a shot, not just the people with the largest check... I couldn't figure out how to do an online raffle with all the weird laws for raffles, so instead, I'm having a contest to win the quilt!

Here are the tees I have, all cut up into 11x11 inch squares. Their final sewn size will be about 10x10 inches, and the quilts will be 7 squares x 7 squares. So each quilt will have 49 squares with printed designs. (Plus there will be a solid-colored border - the back will also be solid.) The final size - approximately 80" x 80" - will be large enough to go on a full- or queen-sized bed.

***********************************************************************

UPDATE 4: Quilt for charity contest is being constructed! And I've even got photo evidence!!

Here are the squares for the quilt I'll auction/raffle off for charity that I'm giving away in the contest. I put fusible interfacing on the back of all 49 squares - took way more time than I anticipated!

And columns of squares, just waiting to be sewn together!

Three columns sewn together! 4 more to go!

***********************************************************************

UPDATE 5: Top is almost done, just needs the border

UPDATE 6: Almost done! Just need to finish quilting it.

Threadless quilt - almost done!

you should make a wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tubeman from them. and put craigs face on it.

I want one. This will be awesome. Great idea, Kate!

ladykat on Jun 30 '07 at 9:16pm
Thanks guys! Hehe, I am crafty :-P

I don't think the tees would hold air very well, so the inflatable arm flailing tubeman would be all deflated, and that'd be sad.

   d3d on Jun 30 '07 at 9:17pm
you could paint the inside with latex

ladykat on Jun 30 '07 at 9:31pm
Sheepman, I bet those will be sweet. You gonna show us pics?

Mythbusters has a budget that far surpasses mine. Unfortunately.

Noobits - I don't have one of those (though it would be sweet to have one), but thankfully jersey knit holds tightly, and I read accounts of people who have done this sort of thing before - the raw edges should be fine.

Noobits, I'm gonna take my time with this... try not to rush. So it might take a bit but I think it'll be worth it.

I can't wait to see them... I think making Threadless curtains for a VW bus is a stellar idea - so fitting!
hanzabean
hanzabean on Jun 30 '07 at 9:42pm
But still sheep, it's got an automatic cool factor for being a VW bus. Add threadless to that, and I don't even know!
SheepMan22
SheepMan22 on Jun 30 '07 at 9:45pm

Jan, that would be so awesome!

I've already cut up some girly smalls - they work just fine. The only ones that are problematic are the tiny kid's tees... I have 2 I couldn't use for this, but I'll use them for something else.

Yo, Ladykat wassssup!? you'd be in a musical movie that takes place in dystopian America, the communists have won, so now everyone always has to walk around in gray jumpsuits. But not you, you want to introduce color to the world, that's why this movie is called "Rainbowstime", your name is Reign Boh, half vietnamese, half black, half West Virginian, half vegetarian, so basically you're like the most beautiful and exotic combination of races. You discover a delicious and beautiful watermelon growing in the basement of your house, and you've never seen color like this before, and it amazes you, so you use the watermelon's water colors to paint a picture of some shit, and then you show it to your grandpa who's cool as shit, unlike your folks who are all retarded and strict, and then he tells you the glory of color, so you go on a journey to find color, abandoning your parents and your simple life as a pencil sharpener. Eventually you form a militia of color that defeats the commie armies of evil with the power of friendship and goodness and lasers.

That's right!
