Hey guys.



This here's an idea I have based on the four elements [from left to right: Earth, Wind, Water, Fire].



I think the most complicated part of this design I'll have to deal with is the coloring. I was thinking of making each creature one solid color, with a single outline color for all of them. What do you think?

I was also wondering how I should compose them on the shirt...



Any advice is welcome!

Umm. Plain awesome. It would be cool to see them all sitting around a stream or forest or something.

you're right, that's going to suck to colour. i guess a solid colour each and a fifth colour for outlines is the safest bet. but you could do Air in just lines, and depending on the tee colour you could really have 6 colours for the remaining 3 characters. 2 each.

Yeah, I reckon a solid color for each and maybe a foil silver outline. That would be sexual to the max.

This is beautiful, I would stare at it for hours... I hope that solid colours don't ruin the whimsey of the drawing.

earth's arm position looks a bit phalic. the placement of wind or fire is odd just because either one looks really short (yes, i understand she doesn't have legs) or one looks very tall, so your eyes do this: _ _ _ --



maybe some of that will be resolved w/ color. leon pretty much hit it all. can't wait to see the end product.

I had a 4 elements design and I figured this for coloring:



Light blue for wind, deep blue for water, Red-brown for earth, light orange for fire, and a really dark line for them all...this way you can shade and highlight each of the matching pairs with the other's color...those arent the exact colors, just the description to give you an idea of how to maximize detail

not to mention what leon said, making air transparent, and using the shirt color, you should have pleanty of options for full color characters

@ chelly: Yeah, I was worried about the composition. I think I'll shift the characters around a little so it doesn't look so awkward that fire breaks the line. If that doesn't work out, I'll see if I can't slightly redraw some parts.



Is Earth's arm position really that bad? I didn't realize it would come off as phallic.

i dont think it'll be a problem, just make sure that the fingers are clear on earth's arm. i dont think anyone's gonna thing its a dick with fingers, that would just be weird.

earth isn't very earthy. the others are amazing.

I was gonna make some grass or leaves growing out of Earth's head, but that would have required green, and I don't think I'll be using any green at all in the design because I'm out of colors as it is. That's why I just stuck to the single dandelion growing out of its hand.



I suppose I can find some way to make it look more "earthy" though...I guess it all depends on which colors I choose in the end as well.

Maybe Earth could be green? That would be a lot of cool colors, though, and fire would stand out the most being the only warm color (as well as being the only one standing up). I'd like to keep them balanced as much as I can..

wind could be yellowy orange, that would balance out the blue and green. and its amazing, by the way. don't clean up the lines, please...



and maybe make something growing out of earth's arm?

oh, sorry. you already said you couldn't do green : (

what about making earth out of rock? i kno its kinda played out. also, right now it kinda looks like 2 sep. drawings, have waves being created in the puddle under water by wind, and have the waves crashing on earth's feet. that'd tie it all together more. idk if what i said just made sense, but in my mind it looks dope.

I want to see this in color. Also, since the four elements are a group of four, I would kinda like to see the water and wind girls connect in some way or be closer to each other, right now they are sort of in two groups of two. Did that make sense?

Yeah, Earth & Wind were drawn on a separate page from Water & Fire because I couldn't really fit them all on one page and I wanted the flexibility of being able to move them around. I'm thinking of having the Wind's body kind of fading away behind Water to kind of connect all four of them a bit more.



I'm still trying to figure out a good composition.

As for colors, what if it was on a dark shirt (like chocolate) and all the lines for earth, fire, and water were just the shirt showing through. Then wind could just be light lines in one of the colors of the other characters, maybe light blue or something? Then just pick colors that can be used by two characters at the same time. For example:



light blue- wind, water

blueish green- earth, water

red brown- earth, fire

orange or yellow- fire

light yellow or white- highlights for all, dandylion

Anyway, what do you think of this composition? I made the two sitting figures facing each other rather than facing in the same direction so they kind of close the whole drawing in.



I'm still going to add more detail to the Earth creature's head (maybe grass for hair?) and make the Wind creature transition with the two figures on the left.



But composition-wise, what do you think? Also, any other advice is appreciated!

OMG, I was creating a sketch about this same subject...yours is *way* cooler than I could imagine or draw...I would suggest putting a hint of an "elementary school" setting, with perhaps a human "new kid" in the background, looking shocked like he's in the wrong school. Some playground elements, such the earth elemental lower body being the actual sandbox they are all playing in. These are all random thoughts, so feel free to ignore!

you could almost turn the earth guy's head into an actual earth

Steven, I was thinking of doing that actually, but I'm considering this guy more of a soil/plant creature rather than a literal Earth.

For Earth's head, I'm thinking: clover patch.

I like v2's comp much more than v1, looks very nice. I look forward to seeing it colored :)

Version 3 is the exact same version as Version 5 up here ^ and Version 4 is blank, so ignore that.





Anyway, I've made some changes from the previous version...I made Wind flow from left to right; I made the steam coming from the water at the point where Fire's feet touches it look puffier in order to look more like steam; and I added grass for Earth's hair.



This is still a pencil drawing, so I'm still pretty open to suggestions for changes if you have them. Otherwise I'll move forward with this one and ink it...

i like this very much, i think the improvements are good too i cant wait to see it colored

also i like how the girls are the more gentle elements and the boys are the more boyish elements...if that makes sense haha it flows in the design

it is beautiful! have you given any thoughts to colours yet?

i still think there needs to be some sort of interaction between the left and right sides. water/fire interact, and wind/earth do, but theres nothing between them. make waves in the puddle of water splashing on earth's feet or something.

i like it but I feel like it needs some color. Maybe if you made each person outlined in a different color then you wouldn't have to color them in.

Whoa, I almost forgot about this...



Hmm. I'm actually thinking of using the characters for another project. If I ever have time to do another threadless design, I have some other ideas. But who knows...maybe I'll come back to this some time.

as for colors, heres my idea, i sincerely hope it makes sense. have water be a darker blue, wind be a light blue, use each other's colors for highlights / shadows. then do the same thing with fire being either orange or yellow, and earth being a reddy brown, and then thats 4 colors, leaving one for outlines if u need it, or a white highlight or another shadow color or something. OR, you could make each of them one color, and use black /white halftones to add shading, provided that one of those (now 6) colors is the t shirt color as well.
