An idea I had for the Kickin it Old School comp.

This is about 70% complete and the text isn't concrete yet. I don't know if I'm going to use the threadless staff in this design yet. Don't want to come across as an arse kisser.

Anybody have any suggestions as to alternatives to the threadless staff? I had the idea of obscure 80s cartoon characters. Danrule suggested 80s political figures?

it's not very 80s looks more americana than urban...also, putting shimala on there seems to be a bit of a "flattery" gesture, which i don't think would help you win...besides it's for the movie with Jamie Kennedy...and not the threadless crew...

i'm not sure you should have any specific person up there from the 80s or cartoon character...i really don't know...

turntables and boomboxes...and spazzy lettering.

this is more akin to old boxing posters. "tonight's bout"

sorry...worky work!

Actually this is very 80s, and more so akin to the theme of the movie than most of the submissions going up atm.

It's a mock-up of an old school hip hop flyer from the 80s. The movie is about a break dancer who falls into a coma in the mid 80s. Can't see the connection?

As I said earlier, I don't think the finished design will have the threadless staff on it, but as I'm designing a hiphop flyer I have to stay within the conventions of the hiphop flyer 'genre' and this means having characters faces etc.

For more examples of these hiphop flyers check this site out

You know, I was a young adult in the 80's, and I don't recognize any of these names. ::chuckle::

ok i see about the flyers...there are a few elements of each that you can use to make up one all your own...

which you have done (but it looks like you have stuck to about 2 of them). sunken treasure has something that's more obviously 80s urban that might be interesting.

yeah those old flyers are great, that's when hip hop was a new york thang, the late 70's early 80's, that's real old school. Word!
